Wisdom teeth and oral surgery
Wisdom teeth sometimes come in poorly positioned. With a panoramic X-ray, the specialist evaluates whether removing them makes sense. We also perform simple and surgical extractions, frenectomies and apicoectomies.
When to consult
- You were told you need your wisdom teeth removed.
- You feel discomfort or swelling at the back of your mouth.
- You have a tooth that cannot be saved.
- A frenulum bothers you, or a tooth with a root canal still hurts or is infected (apicoectomy).
Not every wisdom tooth has to come out: it depends on its position, whether it causes problems and what your X-ray shows. Surgical procedures are done under anesthesia.
Jaw pain and TMJ
The TMJ is the joint that connects the jaw to the skull, in front of the ear. If it hurts, clicks or makes it hard to open your mouth, the specialist examines your jaw and bite before proposing a treatment.
When to consult
- Pain, clicking or difficulty opening your mouth or chewing.
- You clench or grind your teeth (bruxism).
- Face or head pain with no clear cause (neurofacial pain).
- A diagnosis you would like to confirm.
Depending on your case, management may include bruxism therapy, a neuromuscular relaxation splint, occlusal adjustment or injections. Surgery is not always needed: the specialist decides at the assessment.
Reconstructive surgery, pathology and head and neck oncologic surgery
Reconstructive and oncologic surgery is one of the areas to which the Cirumax team devotes special attention. Every case is studied with imaging and, if needed, pathology, before a treatment is proposed.
When to consult
- A sore in the mouth that does not heal: the assessment may include a biopsy with histopathology.
- You were found to have a cyst or a tumor.
- You need to rebuild an area after trauma, earlier surgery or removal of a lesion.
- Cleft lip and palate, or removal of facial biopolymers.
A biopsy is the removal of a small tissue sample to study it in the laboratory and confirm the diagnosis.
Dentomaxillofacial trauma
The team treats trauma to the teeth, jaws and face, with outpatient, hospital and emergency management, depending on the case.
